Gallipoli Peninsula, today a synonym for bloodshed, is a national park dedicated to the memory of almost half a million soldiers that died here
in a World War I battle. The allies tried to open up the supply route to Russia, but were unprepared for a strong army under Mustafa Kemal
(who later became Atatürk). Many monuments, memorials and burial places are scattered all around scarcely populated peninsula.

The Gallipoli Peninsula lies accross the Dardanele Strait
from Canakkale near Troy.
