Milet is the hometown of Thales, the first known Greek philosopher, scientist and mathematician. He was the teacher of Anaximander and Anaximenes, and supposedly also of Pythagoras. Nothing much is left on the site of the ancient city, at least nothing tangible, but the spirits are definitely still there. It was great just being in a place where great thinkers once strolled, talked and exchanged ideas. Nearby is the river Meander that gave the name to the phenomenon (even though from there it is straight as an arrow).
