Vast, wild, beautiful, empty and silent, the Gran Sabana is one of the country’s most enchanting and unusual regions. You can almost feel the good spirits living there. The soft rolling hills are scattered with small and simple Indian villages. The tepuys (flat-topped mountains) are the oldest geological formation in the world; their height and steep cliffs isolated the tops and allowed the fauna and flora to evolve independently; many species have therefore preserved features of their remote ancestors.
